From my earliest memories, I’ve been drawn to the power of visual storytelling. I grew up with a camera close by—photographing family gatherings, school events, and the everyday scenes that somehow held the most meaning. Over time, I realized a photograph can preserve more than a moment—it can hold the emotion, connection, and story behind it.

I began my professional photography journey later in life, stepping fully into this work at 43 after returning to college to study both technical photography and fine arts. That blend—precision and artistry—still shapes the way I see. It’s why my approach is both intentional and heartfelt: beautiful light, strong composition, and the small details that make an image feel true.

Today, as the photographer behind Heather Hathaway Photography, I serve families, couples, and businesses across Florida—especially Palm Harbor and the Tampa Bay area—creating timeless imagery that feels elegant, warm, and deeply personal. Every session is designed to be relaxed and supportive, with gentle guidance when you need it and space for real moments to unfold.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing thousands of meaningful moments through hundreds of commercial and personal sessions. I’m a proud member of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Florida Professional Photographers (FPP), and the Tampa Area Professional Photographers Association, and I continue investing in specialized training in portrait lighting and composition. I’m experienced in both natural light and studio photography, and I regularly attend workshops and conferences to keep growing—so you can feel confident you’re in capable hands.

At the heart of it all, I’m not just documenting what things looked like—I’m preserving what they felt like. Awards & Recognition

F.I.R.S.T. Institute Program Director Award

My formal photography education began in the F.I.R.S.T. Institute of Digital Photography program, where I received hands-on training in both the technical and creative sides of digital photography. I worked extensively with professional equipment and industry standard software, with a focus on composition, lighting, and post production workflow. I was honored to receive the Program Director's Award for Excellence in Digital Photography, recognizing outstanding achievement, creative vision, and professional growth throughout the program.

I am proud to have been recognized as one of Tampa Area Professional Photographer Association's (TAPPA) Top Ten Photographers for the past two years - placing 7th in 2024, and 10th in 2025. This honor reflects consistent work, growth, and commitment to creating images that are both technically strong and emotionally meaningful. It's a reminder that the quiet details - light expression, composition, and story - matter, and I'm grateful to be recognized among so many talented photographers in our community.

TAPPA President's Choice Award

In January 2025, I was honored to be recognized as one of Tampa Area's Top Ten Photographers for 2024 by TAPPA (Tampa Area Professional Photographers Association). Placing 7th among such talented peers was a humbling experience that validated my artistic approach and technical expertise. This recognition from TAPPA, a respected organization in Florida's photography community, reflects my commitment to delivering exceptional quality and creativity in every shoot.

I’ve been honored to share my story and my work in both VoyageTampa and CanvasRebel, two publications that spotlight creatives and small business owners making an impact in their communities. I also believe strongly in giving back to the photography community and the people it serves—through my volunteer work with TAPPA, and by donating my time and talent to meaningful local causes. From supporting One Day to Remember to creating photo opportunities with PCVA, these experiences keep me grounded in what matters most: connection, service, and preserving the moments that deserve to be remembered.
